Postdoctoral research position in Automatic Text Summarization at Reykjavik University
Applications are invited for a one-year postdoctoral position in Natural Language Processing (NLP) in the Department of Computer Science (DCS) at Reykjavik University (RU), Iceland.
Submission deadline is May 31st, 2019.
The successful candidate will contribute to the research and development project “Automatic Text Summarization for Icelandic”, financed by the (Icelandic) Strategic Research and Development Programme for Language Technology.
The aim of the project is to develop the first Automatic Text Summarization (ATS) system for Icelandic based on machine learning methods. The project consists of two main parts: 1) building a corpus of human-annotated summaries of Icelandic news articles, and 2) developing and evaluating ATS systems. This call seeks a postdoc for carrying out the second part of the project. Three different ATS systems will be developed, and the best performing system selected for deployment and testing at an Icelandic news site.
The candidate should have a PhD in Language Technology / Natural Language Processing / Machine Learning, preferably with an experience in developing neural network models.
The term is for 1 year with starting date September 1st, 2019. Salary will be approximately USD $53,000 per year (before taxes), in addition to some support for travel to conferences. It is very likely that the candidate will be able to take part in other LT projects at RU at the end of the term, due to the new Icelandic Language Technology program (2018-2022) which will finance various LT projects in the coming years.
RU is the largest private university in Iceland with about 3,500 students. RU’s subjects in research and teaching are Computer Science, Science and Engineering, Business, Psychology, Sports Science, and Law. The DCS at RU (https://en.ru.is/scs/) is home to about 25 faculty members and 725 students.
